Construction underway on 1st floating tracker solar project in US - Noria Energy is piloting the first U.S. floating solar project with trackers in Colorado. If successful, it could boost output by 10–20% and turn reservoirs into clean energy assets.
Good news, Wednesday!
Floating solar isn’t new. But floating solar with trackers? That’s a first.
Noria Energy just kicked off construction in Colorado on the first U.S. project to test a floating solar system with trackers. Their new AquaPhi tracking technology rotates with the sun, which could boost energy output by 10–20%.
The pilot is only 50 kW, built on the Fairmount Reservoir with Consolidated Mutual Water Company, GRID Alternatives, and Hazelett Marine. It will power water pumps used to regulate the reservoir’s supply.
It’s small, but interesting. If it works, it could show how floating solar can do more than just save space. It could turn reservoirs across the country into energy and water-saving assets.
It is scheduled for commissioning in September 2025.
What do you think — niche experiment, the R&D we need, or the start of something bigger?
