New Jersey Passes Law to Speed Up Solar Permitting - New Jersey will roll out a statewide smart solar permitting system to cut delays, reduce costs, and unlock up to 200,000 more home installs by 2040.
How about some solar good news to brighten the day?
New Jersey just passed one of the most practical clean energy laws in the country, and they did it with a unanimous vote.
The new law mandates the rollout of a State Smart Solar Permitting Platform that towns must adopt or match. This statewide system will:
Permitting delays are one of the biggest blockers in both residential and commercial solar. Nearly 1 in 5 projects are canceled before installation, with permitting cited as the top reason. These delays add $3,800 to $7,000 per residential project, depending on local timelines and processes.
New Jersey has the 5th slowest solar permitting process in the U.S. This law changes that — and could unlock 200,000 more home installs by 2040, add 560+ clean energy jobs, and save ratepayers $430 million per year.
This is real relief for families looking to go solar. Real support for the local workforce. And real energy savings.
What would this mean if it happened in the commercial sector? Does it help after OBBB?
