Trump revives attacks on renewable energy as solar surges

Trump says solar and wind are “the scam of the century.” But as Ted Kelly puts it, slowing renewables is what’s actually “directly fueling cost increases.”

• Sen. Martin Heinrich warns Trump is “taking a sledgehammer to the clean energy sector, killing jobs and projects” right when we need more energy.
• The Solar Energy Industries Association says, “The real scam is blaming solar for fossil fuel price spikes.”
• Jason Grumet of the American Clean Power Association reminds us that 90% of new U.S. power in 2024 was clean energy, and those states saw prices fall.

Saying renewables are a “scam” just isn’t true. Clean energy is delivering more power, at lower cost, and with stronger resilience. Fossil fuels are the real driver of volatility.

The scam isn’t wind and solar. The scam is pretending that fossil fuels are the future.
